Pentire Head Farmhouse, Polzeath

Cornwall. Sleeps up to 8

An absolute gem of a holiday cottage, this unique Cornish farmhouse with traditional styling is a brilliant base for walkers, families or friends on a seaside break. With seals and seabirds to spot and a headland with good footpath access along with the wonderful South West Coast Path, this is one holiday you won’t forget in a hurry.

Head down the track to the cottage and you’ll find yourself in the heart of an ancient farmstead on this breathtaking headland. Jam packed with historical character such as the big old, uneven flagstone flooring in the kitchen and hallway, there’s more than a nod to the past. And with sea views all around, it really does feel special. Downstairs is the kitchen/dining room and a large sitting room with a woodburner. Upstairs, the two en-suite bedrooms both have sea views and then there are two twin rooms as well, which can both convert into doubles on request. Pentire Farmhouse and its adjoining neighbour, Pengirt, can be booked together if you’re looking for somewhere for a larger group to stay, and the two cottages open up into one seamlessly. Outside, as well as parking for four cars, there’s your own outdoor space to enjoy, and a shared lawn to the front of the farmhouse.

The gorgeously unspoilt Pentire headland is waiting to be discovered right from your doorstep, alive with wildlife (keep your eyes peeled for skylarks, grey seals and peregrine falcons). With miles of coastal footpaths to explore, and secluded beaches to discover, the north coast of Cornwall doesn’t disappoint. It's a 15-minute stroll along the footpath to the beach at Pentireglaze Haven, which links to Polzeath beach at low tide. Polzeath is a great spot for surfers with its atlantic waves. Or if you’re keener to tread the coastal paths, then head to Pentire Point and The Rumps where there are spectacular views towards The Mouls.

This part of north Cornwall is full of quaint seaside villages, perfect for slowly wandering (with an ice cream or two). Head down to the higgledy-piggledy lanes to the pretty inlet of Port Quin or to the pretty jumble of white-washed cottages that make up the lively harbour of Port Isaac just over Pentire headland to the north. Or go south towards Rock and jump on the ferry to the bustling foodie hotspot of Padstow. And of course, if you’re here for the beaches you won’t be disappointed either. Discover Tintagel Post Office or the stunning Lanhydrock estate, the two nearest National Trust places.
