Malabar House is a Grade II listed building, located in the centre of the picturesque seaside town of Lyme Regis on the UNESCO Jurassic Coast in Dorset. Believed to be one of the towns oldest buildings, Malabar House has been sympathetically restored to become an exceptional four bedroomed holiday home with superb facilities yet beautifully retaining its historical charm and character. Behind the imposing double fronted façade, you will be welcomed into a bright interior thoughtfully arranged for larger families or groups of friends to enjoy a memorable holiday whatever the occasion. The drawing room is an impressive space with a wealth of original features including a grand fireplace, original ceiling beams and carefully restored window shutters; bedecked with period furniture and plush seating, this spacious and charming room is the perfect place to retreat to at the end of the day. Towards the rear of the house, is the real heart of this home with a stylish yet individual kitchen perfectly equipped for family holidays and informal eating around the farmhouse style kitchen table. Doors open onto a delightful courtyard seating area, with table and chairs, considered planting and feature lighting creating a space to savour alfresco dining or a sociable drink during the warmer summer evenings. The separate and more relaxed garden sitting room is a delight with French doors flooding the room with light and opening onto the courtyard. For special occasions and formal gatherings there is a magnificent dining room, again with many character features seen throughout this most extraordinary period property. Heading up the feature staircase, you will reach the four bedrooms, all opulently styled and furnished with a restful night’s sleep in mind. The three spacious king-size bedrooms, all with impressive en-suite shower rooms, have retained many original features including fireplaces with over mantel mirrors and wall panelling rediscovered during the recent renovations; the fourth bedroom, a delightful twin room, has use of the family bathroom also located on this floor. Located in the heart of the old part of town, there is so much to see and do all within easy distance from Malabar House. Step outside and you are literally moments from the seafront with its promenade, sandy beaches, and iconic Cobb harbour, perfect for lazy summer days or soaking in the sea air at any time of the year. The town has a superb selection of independent shops perfect for everyday needs, including local delis and the Town Mill bakery. Food lovers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to meals out, whether its savouring fish and chips on the seafront or enjoying one of the many popular pubs serving freshly cooked local produce. For a special occasion why not try The Oyster and Fish House or Tom’s on the seafront, both offering unrivalled views of the sea. When it comes to days out, head to nearby Beer, a quaint village surrounded by white chalk cliffs, the shingle beach is lined with fishing boats still bringing in their daily catches and is famous for its mackerel. Other family favourite destinations include Charmouth with its Heritage Centre where you can learn about the Jurassic Coast and the areas rich geology, joining one of the guided fossil walks and trying your hand at finding your very own ammonites on the shore. Experience a slice of Lyme’s history and book a stay to remember at the truly remarkable Malabar House.
