The Harris Apartment nestles at the heart of St. Benedict’s Abbey, in the world-renowned Highland Club in Fort Augustus; a tasteful conversion of the Hanoverian Fort / Abbey dating back to the 18th Century. The sprawling grounds sit at the Southern shores of Loch Ness, affording unparalleled views over Scotland’s most famous location.
Sitting in the Moat House the Harris Apartment comprises two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Furthermore there is an open plan kitchen / diner / sitting room. Additionally, it is on the second floor of the old hospice, with beautiful views overlooking the Cloister Garden with giant chess set and views through to Loch Ness.
High Quality Original Furnishings
As a result of recent renovations and upgrades the Harris Apartment offers all the amenities one would expect from today’s world. These include WiFi, SkyGlass TV, Hive enabled heating, a Nespresso machine and fully integrated appliances while it retains all the quality features one deserves from such an historical setting.
A full inventory including lead crystal glasses to fine bone china plates and as a result you can dine in luxury. From hand-made reclaimed Indonesian bedroom furniture, hand carved mango wood sitting room furniture to the leather and Harris Tweed sofa and wing back chair; so you can book the Harris Apartment with confidence.
Sit back and enjoy the original artwork adorning the walls or the hand-woven Turkish floor rugs. Pluck a book from the extensive collection or break out the backgammon and settle back in tranquillity to enjoy the peaceful chatter of birdsong and gentle monastic silence. At the day’s end sink back into the deep, enveloping Simba and Silent Night mattresses, delicious soft pillows and quality duck down duvets to enjoy a well deserved slumber.
The Highland Club
The Highland Club, set in 50 acres of managed grounds forms an integral part of Fort Augustus. The Abbey boasts a full range of amenities. From the sumptuous swimming pool, with its steam room and sauna to the stained-glass beauty of the lounge area with full sized snooker table. For the more energetic there is a fully stocked gym, tennis court (racket and balls are in the apartment), pétanque and boules pit, a wonderful and a well-used cricket pitch. After, why not relax in the Lochside Boat House restaurant gazing over the dark, deep waters of Loch Ness. Or take an evening stroll to watch the gentle waves lap onto the shore.
The location allows wider access to the area. A number of restaurants and pubs in the village are all within strolling distance as are the famous Telford Locks on the Caledonian Canal. Local amenities include a number of tourist shops and a grocery store. And boat tours leave regularly from the quay by the Abbey. You can book your cruises on Cruise Loch Ness website.
The Area
Inverness lies 45 mins to the North and Fort William and hour to the South. The Isle of Skye lies to the West and the Abbey nestles among the hills surrounding the loch. There are a number of stunning walks nearby, or why not use the available adult bikes and cycle along the Caledonian Canal.
Whichever way you choose to fill your hours at the Highland Club, the Harris Apartment will provide a sumptuous welcome and a very warm return.
