Nestled on a picturesque side street that leads straight to the cliff edge and walk way down to the beautiful sandy beach, Jacob’s Rest is packed with original character. Named after the Jacobs family, this original Norfolk terraced cottage was their family home from where they ran their bathing hut business, helping historical bathers take in the waters while retaining their modesty. This well-known local family later diversified into shoe making and also had a chocolate shop, a version of which was thought to have been on the site of the cottage itself. With the original part dating back to the late 1600s, the ’new part’ was added in the early 1800s and, while it has been modernised to offer a light and airy feel, it still retains some of its quirky original features.
Just footsteps away lies the main draw for those visiting Cromer, the wide, sandy beach, pier and Edwardian seafront. A few steps in the other direction sees you at the heart of Cromer town centre, where you can eat out every lunch and dinner time, and only have to make a repeat visit if a firm favourite is found. Along with lots of traditional seaside amusements Cromer also boasts a cinema, zoo, go kart track and a mainline train station that will take you to many of the area’s attractions. Venture further afield and discover a string of pretty coastal towns and villages, the Norfolk Broads and the medieval city of Norwich. That’s if you can tear yourself away from the much loved town of Cromer of course, and, how lovely to return to Jacob’s Rest after a day of fun for a great night’s sleep. Beach 30 yards. Shop 75 yards, pub and restaurant 10 yards.
