Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Town: The small village of Strathyre, Gaelic for 'broad winding valley', lies at the head of Loch Lubnaig, sheltered by Ben Ledi, Ben Vane and Ben Shian, just seven miles from the historic town of Callander. Strathyre has long been popular with visitors, starting as a resting place for cattle drovers and today offering a café, a local village shop, Post Office and a pub serving food. Beautiful, lush green forests cover the hills on each side of the valley, attracting walkers, cyclists and fell runners annually, with the Strathyre Stuc a Chroin 5000 hill race (a gruelling 5000 ft ascent) competing every May. A short drive will take you to Callander, with its 18-hole golf course rated to be among the top ten courses in Scotland, whilst a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants and the McLaren Leisure Centre are also available. Every July, Callander hosts the World Highland Games, and the town’s Rob Roy Tourist Information Centre and riverside walks through The Meadows are not to be missed! A lovely location for all the family!
