Portrush West Strand also known as Mill Strand is a sheltered urban beach on the western edge of the resort, immediately south of the picturesque harbour. The entire length of the beautiful sandy beach is flanked along its eastern boundary by a well used promenade, restricted for pedestrian and cycle use. The beach affords beautiful panoramic views towards Portstewart and beyond to Donegal's Inishowen penninsula. The Causeway walking route passes the beach and it is also a favorite spot for surfers and bodyboarders.West Strand beach is located within Portrush. The main carpark is adjacent to the southern end of the beach and is accessed from Portstewart Road, close to its junction with Coleraine Road at the Metropole roundabout. The pedestrian promenade, which flanks the entire eastern boundary of the beach, can be accessed on foot at a number of locations including Kerr Street and West Strand Road. The NIR Railway Station is located within easy walking distance of the beach.
