Truro, the cathedral city, is minutes away and St Ives, Padstow, Fowey, Port Isaac and of course Newquay are all easily reached and make the perfect spot for a great day out as they are all very different.
Newquay, with its iconic surf culture, has undergone a transformation of late and is full of great coffee shops and local restaurants, along with surf schools and activity centres based along its naturally beautiful coastline. A local secret is the Gannel Estuary and tidal river estuary which is a haven for wading birds. Why not hire a paddle board and explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty from the water? For a relaxing day, head to Newquay Zoo set in parklands or stroll around the boating lakes and enjoy a coffee. Newquay also has its own links golf course right in town with views over Fistral Beach and out to sea. There are also many other world class golf courses nearby from The Point at Polzeath to Trevose Golf and Country Club near Padstow. Newquay Airport is also close by so flying into Cornwall has never been easier, car hire or taxis are available.
Padstow, home to Rick Stein’s foodie empire, is an absolute must, with plenty of places to enjoy from fine dining to a quality pasty on the harbour side. The town sits at the mouth of a tidal estuary and along the banks of the estuary runs a flat multi-use trail, perfect for walking, cycling or even horse riding. Why not hire a bike and ride inland to the pretty market town of Wadebridge, or for the more adventurous carry on into Bodmin and the eerie Bodmin Moor steeped in history? A ferry runs from Padstow across to the royal favourite of Rock, a small village with stunning beaches and yachting. You can walk the coast path to Polzeath from here passing the final resting place of Sir John Betjeman at St Enedoc Church.
Meadow Rise really is the perfect spot to just enjoy this county while relaxing or taking in the sights of its enviable coastline and the many pretty towns. Beach 6½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
