The island, which is linked by a causeway, is home to Ireland’s only wildlife park as well as the historic Fota House with its famous gardens and is just off the N25 making it conveniently located for exploring southern Ireland.
The resort is within a 780-acre country estate with tree lined avenues of oak and sycamore, and is a place of natural beauty where life runs at a more leisurely pace. It is ideal for a relaxing break as the spa boasts an indoor heated swimming pool, as well as a fitness suite (both complimentary to all lodge residents) and offers 60 different therapy treatments including hydrotherapy, all at extra charge.
For golf lovers, the resort has its own golf club which was home to the Irish open in 2001, 2002 and 2014, and offers outstanding facilities including magnificent 27 hole championship golf course and a ’state of the art’ Golf Academy with resident PGA professionals who can be booked for private tuition. There are also tennis courts, a children’s playground and a number of mapped walking and jogging trails.
Cork is Ireland’s second city, and was European Capital of Culture in 2006, and is home to many galleries, museums, theatres, and of course, wonderful shops and restaurants. The area boasts many historic attractions including the Titanic Museum at Cobh, the Jameson Whiskey Heritage Centre and a visit to Blarney Castle with the world famous Blarney Stone is highly recommended.
East Cork has a wealth of golden beaches and rocky coves with fishing opportunities. The historic and extremely picturesque town of Kinsale, which is 26 miles, has many things to do both on and off the water. Boat trips, horse riding and fishing are all available locally. The hotel has two excellent restaurants and a bar which serves food.. Approximate distance to Cork Airport is 39 km.
