. Lumsdale House was built by the local mill owner in 1970 in the National Heritage listed conservation area in the heart of the Lumsdale Valley. It lies on the edge of Matlock, which is full of historical interest and natural beauty. Approached by electric gates and a gravelled driveway leading to a large turning circle, this beautiful detached property enjoys views over stunning landscaped gardens, with large ponds and various seating areas. The garden has its Joseph Paxton trademark features and has been given a whole new lease of life by the owner who is a botanical garden designer. There are various seating and dining areas and a sweeping lawn leading to a top pond which cascades into the main pond with views towards Tansley. The property itself is entered by a spacious reception hall with its original mouldings, ceiling rose, coving and oak-clad pillars either side. Guests have the choice of a drawing room or living room which has a wood-burning stove in the original stone fireplace and French doors to both sides one leading to the enclosed decking area and another set into the fabulous orangery. The orangery boasts a York flagstone floor with olive trees, a water feature, original vines and a stove, and makes a perfect place in which to enjoy a relaxing evening drink.
Within the property the breakfast kitchen is fully equipped and even has its own temperature controlled wine store and matching fridge/freezer with integrated water/ice machine. A separate study and drawing room, four large bedrooms, single bedroom and en-suites with roll-top, freestanding claw-foot baths make this property the ideal retreat to spend time at whilst enjoying the wonderful sights of the Peak District.
Lumsdale House’s fantastic location makes it only a few minutes’ drive from the spectacular Peak District National Park and the popular towns of Matlock and Matlock Bath. Chatsworth House, and Bakewell with its famous pudding shop, are close by. No visit to Lumsdale would be complete without a walk in the adjacent wooded gorge offering outstanding natural beauty, including a stunning waterfall (which can be faintly heard from the house) and an ancient water mill. All in all, this property makes a fantastic holiday location to escape to at any time of year. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.
