Ancrum House is nestled in Gretna Green - known for its weddings at the famous Blacksmiths Shop and being the first village in Scotland where traditionally couples used to run away and marry here as the legal age was lower than just over the border in England. Due to this, the town has featured in many famous literary pieces, including Pride and Prejudice. It is still one of the world’s most popular wedding destinations, even to this day. The train station is just a 2-minute walk, and there is a bus stop close to the cottage, making this an ideal location for people without cars. The house is ideally placed for exploring as it is placed just a couple of miles from the motorway; the property is also within easy reach of the Scottish Borders and the Lake District. Nearby there is a fun day’s shopping at Gretna Green Outlet Village, the great border city of Carlisle with the county’s most besieged castle and fantastic Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery. There is also the creatively named Devils Porridge Museum, where you can learn the story of how this once quiet area flourished into a hub of wartime activity. Beach 2 miles. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.
