In a quiet corner of old Sussex with views over the South Downs, the enchanting Orchard House lies just east of the ancient Ashdown Forest, on the southern edge of the Weald.
Through a large central entrance hall, the glorious open plan kitchen, dining and snug room has been recently extended and renovated to offer an impressively large, convivial space for entertaining and celebrating. Three sets of French doors open onto two patios, the gardens and a small orchard beyond (a nod to its past as a former fruit farm), drawing you out to admire the views across paddocks and the peaceful Sussex countryside surrounding you.
The drawing room is a refined, graceful space to gather for a civilised aperitif or game of bridge on the card table. Next door, the relaxed and inviting sitting room offers a roaring log burner, deep comfortable sofas and a large TV projector for a more informal evening of board games and films - or a perfect room to allow the kids a social space of their own.
Upstairs, five elegant bedrooms await. The vast and irresistible master looks out on two sides over the gardens, offering a double-end bath and separate shower in its en-suite. There are a further two en-suite bedrooms, plus a king size double and a twin sharing a bright, pretty bathroom with a free standing bath and walk-in shower.
With Crowborough, Tunbridge Wells and Lewes all within a few miles there are so many treasures to discover and enjoy locally, an easy journey to return to your house in the country. There are also several yoga and pilates teachers nearby for smalls groups looking for a retreat. For larger groups of up to 17 people, Orchard House can be booked together with the adjacent Medley’s Barn and The Tea Hut. Close to the house there is also a tennis court, shared with the other properties.
