Visitors can enjoy the Electric Palace, one of Britain’s first cinemas, the Redoubt Fort, dating back to the Napoleonic Wars, or meander through the town glimpsing the same sights as the famous diarist Samuel Pepys. The beach, only 200 yards from Plum Tree Cottage, is ideal for both summer or winter, with Frinton-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze and Clacton-on-Sea all within a short drive. There are frequent events to entertain guests, including the Shanty Festival, Ale Trails, a Festival of the Arts, markets and fireworks, which are organised by the local community. Beach 200 yards.
