It is a place where smugglers were once stopped for bringing whisky and tobacco ashore and later where coastguards aided seafaring folk. Now you can soak up the history and the whisky! This seaside cottage is one of a terrace in a slightly elevated position, and enjoys sea glimpses across the Solent from the master bedroom and sitting out area in the garden. Just 50 yards to the beach which is shingle at high tide and sand at low, making it the perfect base for scenic walks for the whole family – including your four-legged friends as it is very dog friendly! Renovated as a holiday cottage it is a cosy, homely and comfortable place in which to relax.
This coastal retreat is just 70 miles from London, which is a 1½-hour drive or similar by train and there is wireless internet access and a Smart TV, for those who want to keep in touch. The waterside cottage has three lovely bedrooms to sleep 6, plus a ground floor wet room with bath, and a well-equipped family kitchen/dining room. The living room overlooks the enclosed garden to the front. This seaside home from home is a secret made to share, and has some quirky additions such as an oar which serves as a handrail and an entrance gate made of local beach driftwood.
There is so much to do in this area and scenic coastal walks can be enjoyed almost from the door. The harbour is close by and this area is one of the south coast’s leading venues for water sports, including sailboarding and kite surfing. Peaceful walks can also be enjoyed along the River Meon, and the well-known national nature reserve, Titchfield Haven, which is nearby. For keen cyclists, there is also easy access to the National Cycle Route Network 2.
The charming nearby village of Titchfield has a traditional butchers and tea rooms, as well as a convenience store. Steeped in history, the church dates back to the 7th or 8th century, and Titchfield Abbey has welcomed many royal historic visitors including Richard I, Charles I and II, and King Henry VI. There are many places of interest to visit, including the New Forest, Beaulieu Motor Museum and Paultons Park with Peppa Pig World, as well as Southampton with its West Quay Shopping Centre, and Portsmouth, with Spinnaker Tower, designer shopping outlets, waterside dining, plentiful entertainments and its famous dockyard with historic ships including the Mary Rose. Winchester and Chichester cathedrals are both also within easy driving distance. Beach 50 yards. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.
