Weston Manor is a Grade II listed English Heritage manor built in 1871 by William George Ward, a catholic convert. English Heritage regard Weston Manor as having a special interest for its quality, completeness and rarity of survival. Today, it is a beautifully restored property able to comfortably sleep up to 14 guests, located in the village of Totland on the western peninsula of the Isle of Wight, between Freshwater and Yarmouth. It has five separate bedrooms and four en-suites all on the first floor and downstairs the hugely impressive entrance hall that greets you on arrival leads to a fully equipped kitchen and drawing room overlooking substantial gardens, commanding views across Totland Bay and the Solent, right across to Lymington on the mainland. In addition there is also a lavish cocktail bar and further room, generally used as a games room with a retro arcade machine and a full size snooker table, alternatively the room can be used for holding banquets which can be arranged on request with the owners. The grounds surrounding the manor are fantastic for wildlife and you are highly likely to see the native red squirrels that thrive on the island along with rabbits, woodpeckers, jays and buzzards.
The fantastic Totland Bay is located only a short distance away where you can find a bar and restaurant to try the exquisite seafood, experience some of the finest sunsets or enjoy a stroll along the promenade to neighbouring Colwell Bay, which is one of the most picturesque beaches in the west. It offers spectacular views across the Solent to mainland England, with clear calm waters and gently sloping sand and shingle, it’s an ideal beach for swimming, and for surfers and kite surfing enthusiasts there is Compton Bay. One of the Isle of Wight’s best kept secrets is Compton, which offers a two mile stretch of contrasting dark and golden sands, with rolling seas, and a stunning backdrop of multi-coloured sandstone cliffs. It’s also a great place to go fossil hunting, you can actually book tours on the beach to see the dinosaur footprints in the sandstone ledge at Hanover Point that are exposed at low tide.? Whether you want to explore or just unwind in front of the open fire, Weston Manor House can offer you everything you need for the perfect holiday.
There are numerous attractions to discover for all ages on this beautiful sunny island. The Needles Landmark Attraction is a must see and is a short distance away to the west, with its chairlift, amusement park, boat rides, lighthouse and coloured sands of Alum Bay. Why not pay a visit to Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday residence, Osborne House and its gardens, perhaps Blackgang Chine which is the oldest themed attraction in the UK, Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Tapnell Farm Park also nearby, and great for families with children thanks to the petting zoo and adventure playgrounds, Carisbrooke Castle or the world renowned sailing town of Cowes. Whatever you decide, one thing is for sure, the Isle of Wight has plenty to choose from. Beach 1 mile. Shop and restaurant 1 mile, pub 350 yards.
