Within a close proximity of Hill House you have several fantastic beaches, ideal for swimming, building sandcastles, rock pooling, fossil hunting and surfing.
Originally built in 1900 as the gardener’s cottage to the nearby Afton Manor, this spacious and relaxing four bedroomed property is able to accommodate up to eight guests. The property borders Afton Nature Reserve, the footpath to which will take you onto Freshwater Bay. Freshwater Bay, is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has clean, clear waters and both sandy and shingle beaches, which are perfect for days at the seaside. From the bay you can pick up the coastal path that leads over Tennyson Down or the Heritage Trail, where the views are fabulous and, if walking towards Alum Bay and the iconic Needles landmark, you will find yourselves looking over the English Channel on one side and The Solent on the other – truly surrounded by the sea.
Up in Freshwater village, you’ll find all the local facilities you could wish for in a cottage holiday destination. There is a bustling shopping centre with a number of quirky, independent shops and plenty of places to eat and drink to enjoy the fresh local produce. For surfers and kite surfing enthusiasts, there is Compton Bay just a short drive away. One of the Isle of Wight’s best kept secrets, Compton offers a 2-mile stretch of contrasting dark and golden sands, with rolling seas, and a stunning backdrop of multi-coloured sandstone cliffs. It’s also a superb place to go fossil hunting, be sure to book a tour with a guide on the beach to take a look at the dinosaur footprints that can be found in the sandstone ledge at Hanover Point that become exposed when at low tide. Beach ½ mile. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
