Clerys is a beautiful family home which has been thoughtfully renovated throughout and includes a splendid oak staircase and galleried landing. There is also a games/TV room and a beautiful, south-facing garden with a large terrace, making it ideal for al fresco dining during the summer months. The 1920s-style door furniture is a nod to its heritage, as it is thought to have been built by the local Fremlin brewing family. Its design was copied from Cobham Manor on the North Downs which was sadly destroyed by fire in the 1960s. The property benefits from a ground floor bedroom and very spacious, accessible, wet room with grab rail and fold down seat in the shower. The master bedroom on the first floor has a large dressing room and spacious en-suite bathroom with a separate shower and the bedrooms have ceiling fans in anticipation of glorious long, hot summers. For winter guests, the stylish log-effect, wall-mounted gas fire creates just the right sort of relaxing ambience to snuggle up in front of with a good book or game of scrabble after an invigorating stroll in the ‘Garden of England’.
Bearsted is an ancient Kentish village at the edge of the North Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and has a traditional cricket green surrounded by shops, pubs and restaurants. In the summer you can hear the comforting thwack of a cricket ball against willow as the local matches get underway. Take a trip to Leeds Castle, known as ‘the loveliest castle in the world’, whose 900th anniversary is celebrated in 2019. Visit the county town of Maidstone, and stroll along by the River Medway. Canterbury, and its magnificent cathedral, are well worth visiting, and you can experience Chaucer’s medieval stories at The Canterbury Tales. A visit the Faversham Brewery will enable you to discover how the local hops are turned into beer, or you can try the local oysters at Whitstable. Chatham Historic Dockyards, Hever Castle, Dover and the Tudor castles at Walmer and Deal are all easily accessible. The local leisure centre at Mote Park has an indoor pool, should the weather turn inclement, and good road and rail connections exist to London, the Channel Tunnel and Port of Dover. Golf is available locally. Shops, pubs and restaurants 800 yards.
