Serena Cottage is a delightful, detached seaside property in an elevated position above the coast of Sandgate. Boasting sea views over to France from most rooms, you’ll almost feel that you’re afloat – without getting your feet wet whilst relaxing on the sofa! This is a fantastic location to enjoy a seaside holiday. Both bedrooms have private balconies, where guests are welcome to sit out and watch the sunset over the horizon, or admire the spacious landscaped garden that overlooks the channel. Originally the bath house to Encombe Manor, it has been lovingly restored and renovated by the present owners.
The open plan kitchen/dining room means that there is plenty of space to enjoy evening meals with friends and family. The large windows in the living room really make a feature of the stunning sea views.
Serena Cottage is located in Sandgate, where H.G. Wells (the famous author) once lived and where Hattie Jacques, the comedienne, was also born. Always worth a visit is Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, which is set in 600-acres. It is home to the largest herd of black rhinos outside Africa, as well as African elephants, tigers, lions and the world’s largest gorillarium ‘The Palace of the Apes’ and the African safari experience.
Another enjoyable way to pass the time is to take a 13½-mile ride from Hythe to Dungeness Lighthouse via Dymchurch and New Romney on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Steam Railway, which boasts one-third full-size steam and diesel locomotives. The Lower Leas Coastal Park at Folkestone is ideal for cycling.
There is golf, sailing and fishing locally. The Eurotunnel Exhibition is worth a visit and day trips to France are also possible. There are good high speed rail links to St Pancras station and the city of London from the local train station. A must whilst in Kent is a visit to the famous city of Canterbury, where you can explore the stunning cathedral and dominant city walls, shop along the cobbled streets and enjoy a city steeped in history. Beach 50 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
