The kitchen door has private access into ‘The Ramsgate Tunnels’, which are old smugglers tunnels’ cut into the chalk. They are lit up for you to explore and there is even a table football in there. Some of the caves date back to the 17th century and were used by Queen Victoria to access the private beach away from the spotlight.
A short stroll along the seafront is the Royal Harbour and town centre. The area is a paradise for golfers, with two championship courses nearby and the Royal Sands Golf Course is 4 miles away. The area is steeped in history, from its stunning architecture to natural wildlife. There are miles of walks, including the Viking Trail, cycle routes and nature reserves at Pegwell and Sandwich. There are good transport connections via rail and bus to London; Ashford for connections to France; Margate for the Turner Gallery, and Broadstairs with its folk week and food festival. Canterbury can be quickly reached by bus, train or car, with Whitstable, Faversham and the medieval port of Sandwich also accessible by train or car. Beach 50 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
