The Pembrokeshire Coastal PathFrom Bishops Cottage you can walk to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, both east and west. The cliffs are spectacular; the bird and wildlife is captivating; the sea and sky a constantly changing panorama. The Coast Path circles the Peninsula offering miles of breath-taking coastline, all within the easy reach of a two-mile radius. If you walk the coastal path round the Peninsula you will find a number of small coves and less accessible beaches - at many times of year you will have them to yourself!St Davids Peninsula BeachesLess than a mile from Bishops Cottage is Caerfai Beach. The scenery is spectacular and the beach, reached down a steep path, is popular for swimming and snorkelling as well as a wonderful rock pooling, game-playing platform for sandy heaven!Just 2 miles to the west of St Davids, Whitesands Beach is one of the most stunning locations on the Pembrokeshire coast. This wide sandy 'Blue Flag' beach has lifeguard cover in the summer; surf hire and surfing lessons are available at the beach. Popular for swimming, surfing and water sports of all sorts - your dog can walk there too between October and April. When you have had fun on the beach visit the Whitesands Cafe for tasty snacks and refreshments. Boat TripsBook your place on one of Pembrokeshire's most spectacular boat trips to visit the internationally important bird islands just off shore. Leave from St Justinians to visit Ramsey Island or from Martins Haven to visit Skomer Island. Expect to see a wealth of seabirds including delightful puffins, manx sheerwaters, gannets and more. Seals and occasionally dolphins are a regular site too. Porthgain Village and harbourPorthgain was a prosperous nineteenth century industrial harbour exporting slate from local quarries at Abereiddi and Porthgain itself. Now the village is popular for water sport enthusiasts - boaters, rowers, fishermen and canoeists - their activities overlooked by relics of the industrial past. The village can be busy in summer. It is on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, served by the Strumble Shuttle (the local bus service) and offers the visitor galleries and a gift shop and refreshments at the popular Sloop Inn and Shed Fish Restaurant. Abereiddi Beach and the Blue LagoonA short walk along the coast path from Porthgain is the hamlet of Abereiddi, with a pebbly car park and wide pebble and sand beach. The beach is popular for families - swimming, canoeing, eating ice cream and playing on the sand. Just to the north is the famous Blue Lagoon where groups of hardy individuals take part in cliff jumping into the deep aquamarine water. The lagoon is an extraordinary remnant of past industry - the quarry now flooded with sea water at high tide, provides a calm deep pool for small boats and swimmers. Working Woollen MillsJust up the valley from Solva village, Solva Woollen Mill, patronised by Prince Charles, specialises in fabulous carpets, rugs and runners.A little further up the north coast from Porthgain, Tregwynt Woollen Mill weaves traditional and contemporary designs for blankets, throws, cushions and soft furnishings. Their beautiful products are in demand worldwide. Golfing Breaks Pembrokeshire WalesSt Davids Golf Course is a spectacular 9-hole course on the headland overlooking Whitesands Beach - a real challenge! Family owned Priskilly Forest Golf Course is a 20 minute drive away. Open all year to visitors of any ability, it is a 9 hole gem, set amongst mature oaks, sycamores and rhododendrons and with panoramic views from Strumble Head to the Preseli Mountains.
