Set within the magnificent Estate of Maunsel House, which was built in the 13th century and is the ancestral home of the Slade Family. The house and grounds are steeped in tremendous history, with more than a touch of eccentricity, a reflection of its owner, Sir Benjamin Slade, 7th Baronet, whom if around will welcome you to look around the main house with a tour and a glass of champagne. Mill Farmhouse (ref UKC1679) is a spacious house with oak floors and doors and a wood burner, great for the winter evenings. In years gone by Barn Owl Cottage (ref UKC1683) was the site of Maunsel’s own wheelwright who kept a barn owl as a pet. Since then it has been converted into a beautiful cottage with great views overlooking the estates many lakes. Dairy Mead Lodge (ref UKC1680) is a thatched converted dairy situated within a minute’s walk of Maunsel House. It’s in a great position overlooking the fishing lakes and the ornamental ponds. Front Lodge (ref UKC1682) is a stunning, quaint, converted gatehouse, originally the home of the estate grounds keeper. The lodge is situated at the top of the drive, overlooking Maunsel House Estate’s beautiful parkland, with its roaming shetland ponies and birdlife. Finally, The Old Corn Mill (ref UKC1681) as the name suggests was the old corn mill and the wheel is still visible, parts of which are kept as a feature in the house. With a reverse layout it has a sunny living space upstairs overlooking the church and one of the four fishing lakes and a meadow.
The properties, all detached, are set within stunning parkland and the estate sprawls across 2000-acres, comprising farms, lakes, woodlands, walnut groves, orchards, Somerset wetlands, a church and an ancient barn, and you are free to roam to your hearts content. If that isn’t enough to keep you busy, Maunsel House is very close to all the great attractions of Somerset as it is situated not far from Bridgwater and the M5, which gives you easy access to Taunton and the Quantocks, Burnham-on-Sea, Glastonbury and Wells. Beach 17 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 300 yards.
The properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 30 guests.
