There is walking and riding on the Somerset Levels, as well as fishing, golf and many family attractions in the area, such as Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum (with its prototype of Concorde), the Haynes Motor Museum with its fine collection of vintage cars, Clark’s Village at Street, Cricket St Thomas Wildlife Park and the famous spectacular Cheddar Gorge and Caves. High Ham itself is architecturally interesting and contains a part Norman church and a National Trust thatched windmill, which is the only one in the country. There are also many fine historic houses to visit: Montacute House and Gardens, Hestercombe House, Wells Cathedral and Bishop’s Palace and more. It is also ideally located for days out further afield, to explore the north Somerset Coast (20 miles) and into Exmoor National Park, the Dorset World Heritage Jurassic Coast (26 miles), the spa city of Bath (30 miles) with its Romans baths, museums, shops and restaurants, and Longleat Safari Park, all well worth a visit.
