Cedar House, so called after the ancient cedar of Lebanon tree in the garden, is an elegant and friendly old vicarage built in 1863, which is full of interesting architectural detail. There is a large and beautiful walled garden that leads through a gate on to 2 acres of wild garden where a hard tennis court, surrounded by hornbeam hedges, is also situated. This is the ideal holiday home for couples or families. You enter the house through an old Victorian oak door, coming into an airy, spacious hall with a high ceiling that extends to the upper floor at one end. A large, light and well-furnished living room, with an open fire and grand piano, is on the right of the hall; to the other side is a ‘study’ with a desk that once belonged to the TV character Rumpole of the Bailey’. Double doors lead from here to the private garden. Further rooms include a dining room with a table that converts into a billiard table. Opposite the dining room is a spacious and well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast area. There is a larder as well, and a further room for washing and drying machines. Upstairs, all the bedrooms are of generous proportions, with large windows and beautiful views. Comfortable mattresses and bed linen have been a priority, and the bedding on the second floor suite is specifically for anyone with allergies.
Within the beautiful gardens is a private, heated, outdoor swimming pool and a big studio/games room with an extensive selection of games, including a full-size table tennis table. The house is situated in a delightful part of Surrey close to the Surrey Hills, which are excellent for walking and cycling. The River Wey is a short walk from the house, and goes past the 11th-century church and water meadows. There are long, beautiful riverside walks that take you to Guildford and beyond. Wonderful walks with breathtaking views can also be found along the North Downs, Newlands Corner and Box Hill. The area is well served, and has picturesque villages, vineyards and local pubs, many with local beers. Shere is a few miles away with its 13th-century church, tea rooms and duck pond. Abinger Hammer, Holmbury St Mary, and Ripley are also close by. National Trust homes and gardens such as Wisley, Painshill Park, Polesden Lacey, Leith Hill, Hatchlands Park, Clandon Park, Leonardslee, Nymans and Wakehurst Place are all within easy driving distance. Silent Pool is not far away, and has a vineyard and distillery. Brocketts Farm makes a fun day out for children, and there is an easy motorway link to Chessington World of Adventure and Hampton Court Palace, Legoland, Denbies Vineyard, Alice Holt Country Park and Gomshall Mill. If a day at the races is for you, there are many racecourses to choose from including Sandown Park, Lingfield, Kempton Park, Brighton, Ardingly and Plumpton. For a day by the beach, Worthing or Brighton are less than an hour away. Woking has a large shopping centre with theatre, cinema complex and restaurants. Guildford is an older market town and has a cathedral, G-live, the Yvonne Arnaud and the Mill Theatre, together with a large shopping area and many interesting restaurants. Both are a 10 to 15-minute drive away, and both have fast trains to London.
Although peacefully tucked away along a private residential road, the property is close to the main road with good links to London and the South East. Heathrow and Gatwick are both about 30 minutes’ drive away. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 2 miles.
