This beautiful, Grade II listed house with beams, brick floors and open fireplaces (with an inglenook fireplace in the dining room) is surrounded by a large garden and 30 acres of pasture and woodland. Guests are able to explore the grounds and spot the deer, pheasants and the occasional badger. The property is set in the hamlet of Bedham, where the composer Sir Edward Elgar and the author Ford Madox Ford both previously lived. Nestled in the South Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there are many interesting places for you to visit should you decide to venture further afield.

Near Pulborough, you can see Parham House, 9 miles, one of the country’s finest Elizabethan houses, complete with the long gallery. Bird watchers will not be disappointed at Pulborough Brooks RSPB bird and wildlife site. Discover how the Romans lived at Bignor Roman Villa and open air museum, 8 miles. The pretty market town of Arundel, 11 miles, boasts a castle, seat to the Dukes of Norfolk, and reflects 1000 years of history. Admire the art at Petworth House, 4 miles, a stately mansion in the Sussex Downs that houses the finest art collection in the care of the National Trust. The Weald and Downland Living Museum at Singleton is also definitely worth a visit.

The historic city of Chichester, 19 miles, has a 12th-century cathedral, a fine Georgian shopping centre, a vibrant Chichester Festival Theatre program and boat trips from the harbour. You can enjoy polo at Cowdray Park, motor racing and horse racing at Goodwood, and golf, cycling and riding are also available locally. For walking enthusiasts, there are plenty of footpaths to explore, and Hesworth Common, Petworth Park and the Downs are within easy reach by car.
