Toadlands Shepherd Huts is situated in a small village of Mickleton 8 miles west of the busy market town of Barnard Castle where you can spend time amongst the plethora of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Take a walk down to the river by the walled castle. Spend time exploring the vast collection of arts, antiques, and exhibitions in the Bowes Museum a magnificent French Chateau. Take a drive to the imposing medieval Raby Castle and gardens where deer roam within its scenic park lands. Mickleton itself has a fabulous pub the Blacksmith arms serving freshly made pizza's and local beers, a vibrant Village hall hosting a range of musical events and a fortnightly run cinema club A stone's throw away from Toadlands lies the Railway walk ( former railway line ) connecting Mickleton to the neighboring villages of Romaldkirk, Cotherstone and Middleton all with friendly pubs serving delicious food. In Middleton the larger of the villages there are also several excellent cafes, restaurants and an award-winning Fish and Chip shop, a co-op store, pharmacy, butchers, iron mongers and part time post office. also on the doorstep you can visit the spectacular High force and low force waterfalls, enjoy the beautiful Eggleston Hall garden.
The Dales is a magnificent place to walk /Cycle off road biking can be enjoyed at Hamsterley forest where different challenging marked runs can be enjoyed or for a more relaxed way to spend some time visit The peaceful Grassholme reservoir and observatory, a unique and magical visitors attraction under the Dark Skies of County Durham.
