Town: Closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle, the village of Staindrop is a pretty holiday spot for anyone looking to spend time in Teesdale. Open to the public, the castle itself is one of the most spectacular in England. Extended and adapted over the years, the construction was originally medieval, boasting a walled garden and a 200-acre deer park. For more diverse shopping opportunities, the popular market town of Barnard Castle is only five miles away, and provides a selection of shops and tea-rooms, in addition to it's namesake â the famous castle. The Teesdale countryside is also a draw, offering a huge number of routes for walkers and cyclists looking to explore the region.
