Set in the idyllic Essex countryside, on the edge of the village of Wethersfield, The Hare’s Field is a place to stay for a holiday or short break, a place for intimate weddings, ceremonies and receptions for up to 60 people. In addition, a place to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary or to just get together with friends and family.

Designed in a spacious yet private courtyard, these traditional Essex Barns have been sympathetically restored and skilfully reconfigured to create a high quality self-catering holiday experience.

The Accommodation Barn includes 8 beautifully designed double bedrooms all with ensuite shower rooms, with linen, towels and toiletries included. They have underfloor heating and provide modern comfort with style. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided and the beds have high quality ‘sprung’ mattresses for a good night’s sleep. There is a fully accessible suite for people with mobility disabilities and well behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement.

The Main Barn it is a superb space to gather and relax while on holiday, with 2 lounges, free WiFi, TV, table tennis, well equipped kitchen and dining area. There is a multi-zone sound system, an outside seating area with a firepit, overlooking the rolling countryside and parking for 20 cars. Covid safe cleaning procedures are all in place, plus a 72 hour gap between bookings.

Only an hour and a half from London, 30 minutes from Stanstead Airport and yet in the heart of the countryside, this peaceful rural area is one of the UK’s best kept secrets. There are circular walks from the door, where you often see wildlife such as hare, deer and birds of prey. Your hosts, Mick and Fiona have lived in Wethersfield for 30 years, so have a wealth of knowledge on delicious places to eat, fascinating places to visit and interesting independent shops. They also have a little black book of trusted suppliers to help you organise your wedding or party.

The Hare’s Field is the ideal base for exploring the many attractions in Essex and nearby Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. For historic houses and gardens, there is Audley End, Hyland Estate, Melford Hall and Kentwell Hall. For families also, there is the nearby Boydells Dairy farm with daily guided tours, the Audley End Miniature Railway and Great Notley Discovery Park with its adventure playground and sky ropes. Don’t miss the award-winning Colchester Zoo, just a short drive away. If you like exploring rural villages, nearby there is Castle Hedingham, Finchingfied and Lavenham and the medieval market towns such as Saffron Walden and Sudbury. At the Hare’s Field you are also within easy reach of Dedham Vale, the bucolic landscapes made famous by Constable’s artworks. Newmarket for horse racing or the National Horse Racing Museum and Duxford - Europe’s largest Air Museum are not to be missed.



Located in Braintree, this vacation home is in a rural area. Hedingham Castle and Leez Priory are local landmarks, and some of the area's attractions include Cheeky Chimps Funhouse and Bridge End Gardens. Traveling with kids? Consider East Anglian Railway Museum, or check out an event or a game at Milbank Stadium. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.
