Situated in what was once the largest medieval marketplace in Europe and originally two cottages built on top of each other, this charming cottage is within walking distance of the independent stores, friendly tearooms and inviting pubs and restaurants serving freshly caught seafood and local ales. Stroll the cobbled streets to the pretty harbour and past the 12th century kirk. Practise your swing on Crail's two golf courses or choose from the 38 other courses in Fife alone. The famous golfing town of St Andrews (10 miles) is well worth a visit with its bustling streets, ancient ruins and golfing tradition. Explore the Cold War history of Scotland's Secret Bunker (4 miles) where plans were made for surviving a nuclear attack or head along the coast to Anstruther (4 miles) for kayaking, canoeing or a pleasure cruise to the Isle of May. A delightful example of the traditional architecture of the East Neuk of Fife, your unusual holiday cottage has two front doors, one reached via the outside forestair. Walk across the gravelled square to the lower blue front door and step into your holiday home. The spacious entrance hall has room to leave boots and shoes and a handy unit for placing your keys. A door leads into the welcoming sitting room decorated in neutral tones and bathed in natural light from the large picture window overlooking the garden. The bright living room offers plenty of soft seating for you to relax in to after a day of walking and adventures as you watch your favourite TV programme or chat about the highlights of your day over a glass of wine. The first of the bedrooms is on this lower level, a pretty twin bedroom with washbasin and ample storage for your belongings. Head upstairs to the first floor where a hall leads to the formal dining room with antique furniture and artwork adorning the walls. Prepare simple suppers in the compact kitchen, which although small, is equipped with an electric cooker, fridge, microwave and washing machine for your convenience. A second cosy twin bedroom overlooks the pantile rooftops of Crail. The bathroom has a bath with shower over, washbasin and WC. Outside is a private south facing garden, the perfect sun trap to relax in.
