The Old Sweet Shop, 4 BDR House, Burrough On The Hill

Leicestershire. Sleeps up to 7

The Old Sweet Shop sits in the heart of the picturesque village of Burrough on the Hill. Once a butcher's and sweet shop, the space is now a mosaic of architectural nooks and quirks, complete with luxury amenities, ethically-sourced furnishings, and modern entertainment. Bedrooms are low-beamed and cosy. Living spaces are bright and airy. Outside, a traditional English walled-garden boasts a wood-fired hot tub and dining area. Rural walks and a Michelin-recommended pub are a stone's throw away.

Sleeping Quarters.
The Old Sweet Shop comfortably sleeps seven guests across four charming bedrooms. Each room features luxury bedding and generously-sized mattresses. Our furniture and bedding are ethically-sourced to minimise environmental impact. We believe this makes for an even better night's sleep.

Bedroom 1.
The master bedroom is spacious and quirky, featuring oak beams and low-set cottage windows. Guests will enjoy a super-king bed, walk-in wardrobe, and three-piece, ensuite bathroom. Our luxury hemp bedding is a less resource-intensive and more durable alternative to linen.

Bedroom 2.
Bedroom 2 offers a kingsize bed positioned on a raised platform for that regal feel. Here you'll find eucalyptus silk bedding that is luxurious, refreshing, and significantly less resource-intensive than cotton or traditional silk. Storage is no issue in bedroom 2, where fitted wardrobes wrap the space producing an ornate yet practical motif.

Bedroom 3.
The loft room is situated on its own floor. It features a low, floating bed with king sized mattress. The bedroom adjoins a cosy snug area, perfect as a kids' play area or to curl up with a book before bed. This room also features eucalyptus silk bedding: soft, good for your skin and good for the planet too.

Bedroom 4.
This is a warm, cosy space which accommodates one single bed with luxury, linen bedding. An in-built-wardrobe provides plenty of storage for one individual.

Living & Dining.
The living spaces are made up of the former village butcher's and sweet shop. A bespoke kitchen boasts a range of culinary treasures, including an electric Falcon range cooker, Dualit kettle and toaster, and Aarke soda stream. The former shop entrance has been converted into a generous larder/cupboard space. Also provided are a microwave, dishwasher, and large double fridge/freezer. Window-seating and bentwood chairs surround a large dining table complete with a generous selection of cutlery, glassware and stoneware, fit for the most indulgent feasts with friends and family. Large bi-fold doors provide an uninterrupted flow to the outdoor dining area.

In the living room, two deep sofas surround a 48-inch OLED Smart TV, with sports channels, streaming apps, and a Sonos sound system. A handsome log-burner is the centre-piece and a perfect antidote to those colder winter nights. If offline is your preference, this room is well set up for an evening of board games or simply enjoying a spot of light reading. Large bifold doors slide back to invite in the great outdoors. All electricity at The Old Sweet Shop is supplied via the grid from renewable sources.

Working.
Situated on the landing beside the loft bedroom is a dedicated work space with natural light, fast wifi, and two comfy desk chairs.

Bathrooms.
The family bathroom is situated on the first floor and comprises twin sinks, overhead shower, and standalone cast iron bath. The master bedroom adjoins a three-piece ensuite bathroom with sink, standalone bath and Saniflo toilet. On the ground floor is a cloakroom with sink and toilet.

The Garden.
Our south-facing garden is designed with relaxation and indulgence in mind. A set of cast aluminium table and chairs are perfect for open-air dining, and is accessed directly through bifold doors from the kitchen. Guests can soak in rustic luxury in our wood-fired hot tub, with its onboard low-carbon log burner for true relaxation. Mature beds and potted plants line a well-maintained lawn. A BBQ, rustic fire pit, and two-person swing chair are the finishing touches.

Exteriors and Parking.
We are proud to provide a 7kW Type 2 EV charger for guests to use. The Old Sweet Shop has private parking spaces for two cars and free on-street parking available. Guests must ensure never to block the drive as access is shared with our dear neighbours. There is no street-side entrance to the property, instead access is gained via the grey side gate, situated a few metres down the drive from the road.

Guests will enjoy full access to the property.

The Setting.
The Old Sweet Shop sits in stunning rural surrounds atop one of the highest peaks in Leicestershire. The village, Burrough on the Hill, hosts a handsome medieval church and the Iron-age hill fort of Burrough Hill. The fort is a stunning natural feature and site of great archeological significance. A short stroll from the house is the Michelin-recommended eatery, The Stag and Hounds, which draws visitors from across the region. Rolling hills extend for miles around, which are popular for walking and cycling. Nearby, the historic towns of Oakham and Somerby provide a wide range of high-end, independent shops, restaurants and cafes, including the famous Gates Garden Centre for the plant-lovers among us. All together Burrough on the Hill is a somewhat hidden gem that is peaceful, well-catered for; a perfect destination for outdoor activity and rural recuperation.
