Connel 6.2 miles. Offering its guests the best of both worlds – a real sense of history and character but at the same all the mod cons any discerning holiday maker would expect – Ardchattan, Loch Etive, near Oban really does tick all the boxes and is the perfect destination for large families or gatherings. Dating back to the late 18th century, the house overlooks Loch Etive and sits in around three acres of delightful grounds. Inside it offers traditional accommodation from the feature open fireplace and shuttered windows of the sitting room to the wood panelling and original fireplace in the bedroom. The living space is cleverly divided up so the sitting room offers a warm and inviting area to chill out, relax, chat with family and friends and enjoy the panoramic views from the windows, while the snug provides a cosier space with a TV and woodburning stove. There is a fantastic open-plan kitchen which opens onto the fabulous outside terrace so that once you have prepared a sumptuous meal using the state-of-the-art facilities in the kitchen you can step outside, sit down and eat whilst taking in the gorgeous views. Or for a more formal dining setting check out the impressive original dining room and with seating for 12 people you can cater for even the most fancy of dinner parties! One thing there is no shortage of at Ardchattan is bedrooms with a ground-floor twin with en-suite to a number of twin bedrooms upstairs and even a super-king with en-suite facilities. There are three en-suites as well as a family bathroom which completes the first-floor space. Children will delight in running around the safe but expansive gardens whilst the grown-ups can sit back and relax on the outside seating area and really soak up those stunning views over Loch Etive. You might find it hard to leave the house but there is so much to see and do in the area it would be a shame not to. You don’t have to go far to enjoy some superb fishing opportunities from sea trout fishing on Loch Etive to salmon fishing on River Awe. There are three private beaches surrounding the house and there is a launching area for small boats with boats available to hire from Oban. If messing about on the loch isn’t your thing then why not head off for a round of golf at any one of the number of courses available locally including Oban, Taynuilt, Isle of Seil, Dalmally and Lochgilphead? Oban is only a short drive away and from Oban you can take a boat to anywhere within the Inner and Outer Hebrides so the world is your oyster!
