Beautiful Waterside Historical Country House With Magnificent Garden, Kilmun

Argyll. Sleeps up to 16

Old Kilmun House was built by the Duke of Argyll in 1696 with stonework dating back to an earlier 16th or 17th Century house. The property was owned and lived in during the late 19th Century by sugar magnate, collector, philanthropist and founder of Benmore Gardens, James Duncan, and then by the Younger family. James Duncan planted 6 million trees at Benmore, but many of the finest were those he planted in the garden at Kilmun. The whole garden is yours to explore, see if you can find the tree swing or the table and chairs carved from a tree that had lived a few feet away for over 50 years.

It was the Younger family who added the separately owned Victorian extension to the west side of the house. Our lovely neighbor Matthew lives in the extension, if you bump into him, feel free to ask him about any of the rare trees or birds in our garden.

Please note, use of our Yurt costs an additional £200, but is included in our Retreat packages.

Located in Dunoon, this vacation home is on a river. The Queens Hall and Castle House Museum are cultural highlights, and some of the area's landmarks include Newark Castle and Castle Toward Residential School. Traveling with kids? Consider Benmore Botanic Garden, or check out an event or a game at Waterfront Leisure Complex. Scuba diving and motor boating offer great chances to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with cycling and hiking nearby.
