Originally built as two cottages between 1905 and 1911, distinctively-styled Penparc with its terracotta roof and snecked stone walls welcomes up to eight guests and two dogs. With easy access to the vast Dinefwr estate and deer park, it is perfect for large groups who want to explore the stunning countryside of West Wales.
Through the gabled porch, you’ll find the first floor, with its lovely kitchen/dining room, and an inviting living room with a quarry tiled floor and mix of red-toned sofas (as well as a wonderful woodburner), is the perfect spot for relaxing after a day of exploring. There’s also a shower room, utility room and a cosy reading room on this level too. Upstairs are the four bedrooms, two doubles with en-suite shower rooms (one does have slightly restricted headroom, so do watch your heads) and a further two twin bedrooms. There’s another bathroom upstairs too. Outside, you’ll discover spectacular views from the garden, looking across the valley as well as over Dinefwr’s vast grounds. A patio table and chairs gives you the opportunity to sit and enjoy a glass of wine in the sunshine as you take in the stunning parkland that surrounds the house.
Just off a little track, Penparc is a glorious bolthole away from it all in the west Wales countryside. When you stay, don’t miss the chance to explore Dinefwr, from the historic house and ruined castle to the wider estate and parkland, taking in the many footpaths that criss cross the 800 acres of countryside, checking out the medieval deer park, or rewarding yourself with a cuppa and a slice of cake in the cafe. Once you’ve had your fill of countryside walks, then head into nearby Llandeilo for some world-class shopping and eating. The colourful, picturesque town is an absolute pleasure, scattered with an array of small independent shops. There’s also a great selection of places to eat, from a quick snack to an à la carte meal.
Beyond little Llandeilo you’ll find the National Botanic Garden of Wales also on your doorstep at Llanarthne. The Welsh coast is close too with the towns of Carmarthen half an hour away by car and Laugharne (with its Dylan Thomas connections) around an hour from the cottage. Away from the coast, then if you head east then you’ll be on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, where you’ll find waterfalls and the mountainous peaks of Pen-y-Fan to explore.
