Indeed, the Camel estuary is within the official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with coastal walks recognised as a popular pleasure; fairly level, easy walking can be found between Rock and Polzeath, or continue towards Port Quin and beyond for more challenging paths with steep ascents and descents. A popular stretch of water, sailors rise to the challenge of the tides and sandbanks; there is usually a more sheltered spot to be found for novices, whilst the sailing school provides dinghies for hire, as well as lessons.
