The Best View In Cornwall?, Mawgan Porth

Cornwall. Sleeps up to 13

Chandella Villa is a much-loved family home with a dramatic uninterrupted, ever-changing view of the whole of Mawgan Porth bay. The house is in a prime position with lots of space around it – the beach is just a few minutes' walk from the garden along a cliff path, and getting in to the shops and restaurants of the village is easy, too.

Mawgan Porth is known for its excellent surfing, wonderful beach (one of the few now that allows dogs) and dramatic clifftop walks. It sits between the picturesque Padstow and the more youthful Newquay, yet still retains its own character and charm.

PLEASE NOTE: there will be building work happening on the other side of the path down to the beach. This is to the left of the house (if facing the sea) and won't affect the view of the sea.

Inside, the focal point of the house is the long main room with huge full-length sliding windows looking out onto the beach and the sea. Bright and white, it has distinct sitting and eating areas designed for informality and relaxing. We have some new (and much more comfortable) sofas in the living room than the ones pictured - just haven't done the photo yet!

Also on the upper floor are two good-sized double bedrooms (one with a double bed, the other with two singles), a large bunkroom with two bunk beds and a single, and a smaller room which can hold a single bed as well. There is a newly-fitted shared bath and shower room with a loo, as well as a separate loo by the hallway. Downstairs there are two double bedrooms looking out over the bay, one with a new ensuite shower and loo, and the master bedroom with a large ensuite bath, shower and loo. There is a hot shower outside as well, for when you come back from the beach!

The house has undergone a recent refurbishment but we have tried to keep the charm of the house, which still has many elements from its building in the 1970s – so please don't expect cutting-edge fixtures and fittings, or immaculate decoration everywhere...

The kitchen, for example, is perfectly functional – with a double sink, gas cooker, separate gas grill, fridge, dishwasher and a microwave/convection oven – but it was obviously put in about 20 years ago. Though once you see the panoramic view from the window you won’t notice the dated design.

Outside there is a spectacular wrap-around balcony for worshipping the sun on, plenty of parking, and a large lawned garden around the house. The garage is big, accessible through the kitchen as well, and makes a great place to put on wetsuits. It also holds the washing machine and dryer, as well as an additional large fridge freezer, a BBQ for outside use and a ping pong table. You can hire a hot tub as well (this needs to be booked well in advance, so contact us for details asap).

You’ll find that there’s little or no mobile signal here – which most people find is a blessing for a holiday break. But we do have fast free WiFi for those who need to catch up (you don’t have to give out the password if you don’t want to).

Chandella Villa has been at the heart of the most precious holiday memories for our family and our friends – and we welcome you to create your own ones here.

Located in Newquay, this vacation home is on the beach. South West Coast Path Section 15 Trailhead and South West Coast Path Section 16 Trailhead are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those wishing to experience the area's natural beauty can explore Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps. Traveling with kids? Consider Japanese Garden and Bonsai Nursery and Padstow Maize Maze. With surfing/body boarding and swimming nearby, you'll find plenty of adventures in the water.
