Spacious Country Family Home With Hot Tub & Huge Garden, Lymington

New Forest. Sleeps up to 9

Beach-filled days, cosy nights and cocktails on the lawn (whatever the time of day!)- this characterful family house is hidden away at the end of a leafy lane & just a 10 minute walk from the sparkly shores of Milford on Sea.

The Hidden House is surrounded by two and a half acres of mature gardens, fields and trees, it really feels like you're cocooned away from the world. So fill your coupe, slip into the hot tub and tune into the birdsong whilst we reveal a little more…

The vibe here is unpretentious, and the house rambles in styles from the 1920's, to 60's. With contemporary & sleek touches adding a touch of frivolity & luxe (the owner grew up in a family of interior designers, studied fashion and is a self-proclaimed texture-aholic!)- you're sure to fall in love with all the finishing touches.

Perfect for friends, or a couple of families to really enjoy the good life (the downstairs bedroom is fab for multi-generational stays); there is something here that makes you feel a bit ‘Gatsby' – so after salty days at the beach & afternoons in the buzzy village… evenings back home definitely beckon for bubbles in the tub!!

Lawn games & table tennis are also on-hand for the competitive… but for those who simply want to relax, sink-back and soak it all up darlings- there's plenty of room for that too, and the drinks trolley means you don't have to move far! Definitely consider getting a private caterer here (there's a fantastic local chef who will do 1920's menu's), and shape up your cocktail skills. “Pack the Brandies, Orange Liquers, don't forget the Grenadine… Singapore Sling or Sidecar anyone?”

Milford Village is vibrant, has delicious foodie options (we love the bakery for a.m treats, & Verveine for p.m seafood feasts). The beach is perfect for wild swimming – be sure to read our Guide. It's pebbly, but at mid-low tide golden sand is revealed and you can walk it for miles and miles. The clifftop path is a good cycle option too… and there are plenty of pit stops to seek out on your travels!

*With capacity for 10 guests in total, the single room is only suitable for a child. Babies are welcome too, but will be counted as part of the 10 guests staying.

** This property is available for rent with New Forest Escapes, who are a small local holiday cottage agency. Do contact us directly for best rates and availability a year in advance **

Inside...

Downstairs is built for entertaining, with rooms spilling out onto the lawns and manicured gardens that surround. There are two main bedrooms (1 upstairs + 1 downstairs), with another three bedrooms perfectly suited for children or teens (one of which is only suitable for children due to being a small single bed).

The feel here is beautifully curated, but unpretentious and lived-in. Now 100 years old, the house has had two conservatories added (one now the games room, and the other a playroom / sun room), alongside smaller 'extensions', and old definitely meets new in a rambling and charming way.

The hallway is big and leads into the sitting room (which runs full width of the house to catch both morning and evening sun, and there's plenty of seating for 9. The playroom/sun room opens out to the hot tub, and has several sofas for the ‘parent-on-duty' to keep a watchful ear whilst reading or chatting.

The dining room seats 8 but a 9th can be seated on a bench if they cuddle up a bit. (the 20's were about cocktails Darling, not eating…!) For summer meals, the outside table easily seats 10…

The kitchen can be closed off, so it's useful for caterers. For those that want to cook at home, it's compact and best for one or two to get stuck in. Instead of ripping out the old kitchen, it's been repainted in Farrow and Ball Railings and re-loved. We have plenty of ideas for great, locally-grown and delivered meals too, and there is an abundance of fab foodie places nearby.

The downstairs bedroom is huge and has a lovely bathroom. With masses of light, the doors open onto the curated terrace and the room feels bright and bucolic.

Upstairs is reached by the old 20's exposed-oak staircase... just head past the marvellous rocking horse, to lay your hat. The main bedroom on the first floor has ample room, and we love the sumptuous headboard & 60's style en-suite bathroom. If you don't shotgun this room, there are three smaller bedrooms (perfect for younger guests) to choose from - please do check out our home truths and take the virtual tour to decide who would love which. We love the single four-poster, and the shared family bathroom- which rocks a 70's vibe with an amazing sink/mirror unit!

Like all the bathrooms here, expect plenty of delicious smellies (including some amazing-smelling vegan products), deep fluffy towels and a sparkly clean finish.

Outside...

There is room for up to 5 cars to park here, and 2 and a half acres of mature and 'rambling' gardens wrapped around the house.

The two ladies who built it in years previous would be proud. Little has been done to modernise the garden design, so it feels very much in keeping with the house. The perfect lawns spill into more perfect lawns, clipped beech hedges with arches, paving paths that lead in and out, pergolas are smothered in wisteria that hide tables for evening drinks...

...perfect for lawn games, cocktails, alfresco dining and sundowners... don't forget the hot tub!

The outside seating, with an impressive BBQ set up and heater, is off to the side of the house, accessed via the games room and downstairs bedroom. There is also an L shaped sofa in this area- perfect for post lunch relaxing!

The hot-tub is accessed via the sun room, which also gives access to the rest of the garden and sun loungers for a truly summer feel.

Hometruths

There are 2.5 acres surrounding your home-from-home to explore. The paths are in good conditions but uneven so do take care.

Old meets new here, so although there are touches of luxe, some features (such as the crooked kitchen cupboards, and the utility room with exposed pipes) may be more 'rustic' and quirky in style.

Both of the big bedrooms boast en-suites, and the three remaining rooms feel small compared to the masters. One of these rooms has a small single bed, so we would only recommend that this is used by a child.

As we change the hot tub water for every booking, if you arrive on a changeover day, it may take till later on your arrival day until the optimum temperature is reached... trust us though, it'll be well worth the wait!

There is an extra charge for logs and kindling to burn on the fire (October- March) but feel free to BYO!

Accessibility

There are two steps in to the house at the front door with no more steps throughout the ground floor. The large en-suite bedroom downstairs enjoys access onto the lawn, but there is a good handrail leading up to the other four bedrooms upstairs.
