Loughbrickland 2.4 miles. Tucked away in the countryside of Scarva near Loughbrickland, County Down is this beautiful cottage of Scarvagh House set in an 18th-century country estate. Attached to the main house, this cottage overlooks the landscaped grounds of this stunning estate, part of which is a working farm well known for horses, and is a great base for families or couples looking for a rural retreat. A private driveway lined with mature trees greets you on arrival, as well as old walled and wildflower gardens surrounding the property. Inside, the entrance hall sets the luxury scene of Scarvagh House with antique furnishings and paintings, leading you to the spacious living/dining room. This elegant space has a formal dining table for eight guests, as well as a table for four set by the large windows overlooking the grounds and grazing horses. Start the open fire for added ambience, whilst you sink into the sofa with a good book or a cold beverage as you catch up with loved ones. You'll have no problem preparing home-cooked meals with plenty of workspace and an electric oven and hob, along with a washing machine, tumble dryer, and dishwasher. Another characterful feature is the cloakroom with a unique thrown WC to freshen up after strolling the countryside. Part of the walled garden, you'll have your own piece of garden for a quiet moment to listen to the birds, whilst a barbecue is available on request should you wish to dine al fresco on summer evenings. Scarvagh House has two luxury bedrooms, a four-poster bedroom and a twin, both with antique furnishings in keeping with the estate's character, whilst making you feel right at home with TVs and contemporary, en-suite bathrooms. You'll have much of the grounds to explore with stunning mountain views and lovely walks from the doorstep, such as the Portadown to Newry tow path, ideal for walking or cycling. There is a choice of eateries nearby, including the Park Inn, Sintons at the Bridge for classic Irish cuisine, and Hollie Berrie Tea Room, whilst Loughbrickland is home to another traditional pub and convenience stores. A great base for touring, there are a range of nature reserves and woodlands nearby, whilst the town of Banbridge, Portadown, and Newry are all within easy reach. Take a short drive to Newcastle for a day by the sea where you can play at the popular Royal County Down Golf Club, stroll along Newcastle Beach, and explore Murlough National Nature Reserve or Tollymore Forest Park. For picturesque hikes, venture to the Mourne Mountains known for rugged landscapes and panoramic views, or perhaps you'd feel more at home in the city of Belfast. By rail or car, it's within easy reach where you can enjoy interactive displays at Titanic Belfast, stroll around Ormeau Park, and explore the historic Belfast Castle, not far from Belfast Zoo. With so much to see in a stunning region of Northern Ireland, book your stay at Scarvagh House for a taste of history and luxury on your rural retreat.
