The town boasts a wealth of historic attractions, including its impressive castle ruins, an English Heritage Site that stands in an imposing position on a high rock, overlooking the River Tees. The Bowes Museum is a nationally renowned attraction, housed in an incredible 19th century French chateau-inspired building, surrounded by picturesque landscaped gardens.
