The Beamish Valley is located in a picturesque river setting, boasting everything from country inns and gastro pubs to an abundance of great cultural and historical days out.
Mole Hill Cottage is located close to Beamish Museum, the famous and largest open air museum, recreating early life in the North East over various points in history. You can take a ride on the worlds oldest steam engine railway, at at Tanfield Railway, through the picturesque Causey valley.
There are endless walks through the tranquil countryside, also suitable for keen cyclists, exploring the natural heritage and abundance of wildlife. Also, Beamish Lakes offers three crystal clear lakes for fishing and nearby Beamish Park Golf Club is perfect for a round of golf within their peaceful surroundings.
For those looking for adventure, Beamish Wild offers a High Ropes Treetop Adventure course and Archery for an instant adrenaline rush! Broom House Farm also offers an action packed family day out along the nature trail with exciting woodland challenges and obstacles from flying along zip wires, daring to enter the tunnels and climbing up towers! Beamish also offers horse riding.
The city of Durham itself, with its lovely cathedral, river walks and cobbled streets should not be missed. For cricket fans, Durham County Cricket Club’s ground, ’The Riverside’, is a short drive away at Chester-le-Street.
Beamish also has easy access to the A1, which will take you further north to Alnwick and the Northumberland Heritage Coast, where a day can be spent exploring the many historic castles and friendly villages set amongst unspoilt golden sandy beaches. Not too far away is the Metro Centre - one of the largest shopping centres in Europe with an abundance of shops and eateries.

The cottage has a warm kitchen, fully equipped with everything you will need for self-catering. We can advise on local grocery shops and even let you in on hidden gems, like the award winning Knitsley Mill Farm shop perfect for fresh delicious produce, only 15 minutes drive away.
