Town: Ulverston has a historic market and a cobblestone main street, making it a classic English market town. There are numerous locally owned stores, cafes, and pubs serving up authentic fare and cold pints of beer. From five-star restaurants to warm neighbourhood pubs, there is truly something for every preference. Festivals of all kinds—from flags and walking to arts and music—take place in Ulverston every summer, and the town is especially well-known for its annual Dickensian Christmas festival in late November. In addition to being the place where Stan Laurel was born, it also holds the record for the largest foam pie fight in the world. Excellent walks can be found in the surrounding countryside and town, with stunning views of Morecambe Bay and the southern Lake District. The deepest, widest, and shortest canal in the world can be found here, and it makes for a lovely afternoon stroll with a pub and bay views at its conclusion.
