Region: Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
Town: Visitors to the Lake District National Park continue to be drawn to the lively twin towns of Bowness and Windermere because each one offers a variety of adjacent activities, amenities, shops, and restaurants to satisfy all interests. Windermere Lake Cruises in Bowness offers a choice of boat cruises and boat rental options to Brockhole, Ambleside, and Lakeside (at the southern end of the lake where the Lakeside Aquarium and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway are situated). The Old Laundry theatre and the Beatrix Potter World attraction are separated by 1.5 kilometres. It takes 30 minutes to walk to Orrest Head to take in the breathtaking vista of far-reaching views over the lake and nearby fells, which served as the inspiration for Alfred Wainwright to create his series of renowned guidebooks. The historic villages of Grasmere, Ambleside, and Troutbeck are only a short drive away, as is Brockhole, which provides high wire tree top experiences. For those with greater energy, marine centres near the lake offer a range of watersports. With easy access to attractions like the stunning Langdales, Beatrix Potter's Hill Top House at Far Sawrey, Coniston, Grizedale Forest Park with its delightful walks and famous outdoor sculptures, mountain biking and "Go-Ape" adventure park, Ullswater, Kendal, Keswick, stone circles, Roman forts, and England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, the area is perfectly situated for exploring everything this region has to offer by foot, bike, car, railway or bus.
Located in Windermere, this lodge is on a lake. Blackwell, The Arts & Crafts House and Townend are local landmarks, and the area's natural beauty can be seen at Lake District National Park and Arnside and Silverdale. Holehird Gardens and Treetop Trek are also worth visiting. Discover the area's water adventures with fishing nearby, or enjoy the great outdoors with hiking/biking trails and cycling.
