Stonecroft, Bakewell

Peak District. Sleeps up to 10

Resting in the historic market town of Bakewell, set in the Peak District National Park, is this superb stone-built house, Stonecroft. Sleeping up to ten guests, Stonecroft is an idyllic and traditional setting for a family or friends gathering to explore all the Peak District has to offer. Arriving at the property, three convenient off-road parking spaces greet you, before unloading your bags and stepping down into the stone flagged entrance hall to discard any coats and shoes after a long journey. Look forward to relaxing in the spacious sitting room, with its impressive heavy oak beamed ceiling, where you can enjoy a glass of wine whilst watching your favourite TV in front of the woodburning stove set within a feature Derbyshire gritstone fireplace with stone hearth. Put your culinary skills to the test in the well-equipped kitchen/diner, preparing tasty meals for your guests on the integrated Rangemaster, to be enjoyed around the large dining table as you toast to a wonderful holiday under the feature high vaulted ceiling with exposed oak beams. Moving through the property, you will find a handy utility room with an extra fridge/freezer and washing machine, so there will be no piles of clothes needing a wash once you return home! When sleep calls, you have the option to retire to five generous bedrooms, the first being a king-size, which benefits from the ground-floors underfloor heating. Completing the ground-floor is the shower room, where you can enjoy a revitalising shower before heading out for a day of exploring. Climb the stairs to the small split-level landing area, where you will discover four additional bedrooms; a king-size with balcony where you can enjoy views over the town, a king-size and 2 twin rooms, all beautifully decorated and with plenty of storage for your belongings. Freshen up for the evening in the first-floor shower room, before heading downstairs to enjoy drinks and board games with your guests. Sip your morning coffee in the delightful rear courtyard as you watch the world go by and your canine companion sleeps at your feet. Set out to explore your local surroundings, starting with your base of Bakewell, where you will find a good selection of shops, restaurants and pubs, as well as farmers markets where you can purchase fresh and local produce to prepare dinner for your guests at Stonecroft. Stop for a sweet treat in The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop, where you can enjoy the famous dessert in its namesake or a scrumptious cream tea. For those history buffs, take a trip to the impressive 15th-century All Saints Church, which houses tombs and ancient relics, or visit The Old House, a heritage museum filled with historical artefacts and exhibits from Henry VIII’s reign, beautifully set in a Tudor House. Take a romantic stroll over Bakewell Bridge, with its historic arches and glorious views over the River Wye. Take the short drive to Chatsworth, home to the magnificent stately home of Chatsworth House and its expansive gardens. You can take a tour of the lavish house and soak up the art collections and interiors, or opt for a walk around the formal gardens which house the Chatsworth House Labyrinth, Flora’s Temple, the Emperor Fountain and the Chatsworth Farmyard & Adventure Playground, making it a perfect day out with all the family. Venture to the splendid town of Matlock, where you can step back in time with a ride on a vintage steam or diesel train on the disused Peak Rail track, conquer the climb to the Pic Tor War Memorial, which offers panoramic views over the town and beyond, or enjoy a picnic in the lush Hall Leys Park. For those looking to venture a little further, Buxton should be your next stop, where you can explore the depths of the famous Poole’s Cavern, walk along Dukes Drive Viaduct or soak up the culture at Buxton Art Gallery & Museum. However, you spend your time in the Peak District, choose Stonecroft for an unforgettable trip with loved ones.
