About Dartmoor House

Dartmoor House is a truly exceptional country house. Located on the northern edge of Dartmoor in a fabulous setting within the village of Belstone, it’s superbly positioned as a base from which to explore the local area and beyond!

With its 8 bedrooms, 3 reception rooms, large country kitchen, boot room and 4 bathrooms, it’s perfect for large family gatherings or groups of friends, looking to get away from it all in stunning surroundings. Being both large and situated within the Dartmoor National Park the house is quite rare!

Wonderful views of Dartmoor can be enjoyed from most windows and being within the National Park, you’ll regularly find Dartmoor ponies and sheep on the green in front of the house or peering in through the kitchen window! The house has two working fireplaces for cosy winter evenings in. There is also a private enclosed garden for the group to enjoy.

Belstone itself is a small, vibrant village with a beautiful Norman church. It has a friendly pub, The Tors, that does great food and has one of the most beautiful ‘pub gardens’ in the country. Based on a large green, overlooking the moor and river valley, it’s very relaxed and has plenty of space for children to play and wander. At weekends, a visit to the village tea room is a must for that all important Devon cream tea or delicious slice of home made cake!

Belstone is a walkers’ paradise, with something for everyone, whatever their ability! A short walk of no more than 20 minutes will take you to the top of Belstone Tor from where you can enjoy spectacular views both of the national park and out towards the coast. A further 10 minutes along the ridge and you are in the heart of Dartmoor - without a car, road or house in sight you can truly get away from the stresses of modern life. Alternatively, a stroll down the river valley takes you to Sticklepath, with its 3 pubs, cafe and the National Trust’s Finch Foundry. The house is also a great base for runners, cyclists and horse riders.

Dartmoor House, being just off the A30, is ideally positioned for those wanting to venture a bit further afield. The Cornish coast is just 50 minutes away, offering access to villages such as Padstow, Tintagel and Boscastle or, if a beach is more your thing, the surfers’ paradise of Bude is within easy reach. In Devon itself, Dawlish and Exmouth are even closer and the delightful village of Topsham, on the Exe estuary, offers a large antiques centre and plenty of independent shops, pubs and restaurants. And if that’s not enough, the beautiful and historic city of Exeter is just 30 minutes away!
The pretty market town of Okehampton is just a 10 minute drive and offers supermarkets, a small cinema, tennis courts, swimming pool and gym, so you can both get away from it all in Belstone whilst being close to all the facilities you need to fully enjoy your stay. The house enjoys excellent wifi connection, with a mesh system set up for perfect reception throughout
the whole house. You’ll find Alexas in many rooms too so you can listen to all your favourite music, podcasts or radio stations where ever you are in the house.
