Neighbourhood description
Palm Grove Apartments sits on Meadfoot Sea Road which runs from the centre of Torquay down to Meadfoot Beach, past the magnificent Hesketh (formally Meadfoot) Crescent. Local architects and builders, John Tapley Harvey and William Harvey, built Meadfoot Crescent which was commissioned in 1846.

The Crescent is based on the Regency ideals of London and Brighton it later became Hesketh Crescent, after the birth of the first son to Maria Palk, daughter of Lord and Lady Hesketh and wife of Lawrence Palk. Robert Palk bought much of this part of Torquay on his return from India, but it was his son, Lawrence who inherited the estates who became the town's first speculative developer. He started selling plots on 99-year leases to the wealthy. So affluent were these new owners that not one building was erected without its own stables and coach house.

Meadfoot Beach
A stunning blue flag beach just a 10 min walk from the apartment. Grab a deckchair and enjoy the sound of the sea lapping against the shore, or wander along the promenade lined with a colourful row of beach chalets. A popular beach café can be found here too.

Close to Meadfoot Beach is the Agatha Christie Mile. Stretching along Torquay’s seafront, you can follow in the footsteps of South Devon’s most famous daughter. See where the Queen of Crime used to swim and dance, discover the hotel where she spent her first honeymoon, and learn more about her life and times in Torquay Museum.

Daddyhole Plain
Daddyhole Plain is a limestone plateau some 75 metres above the sea, about a 10 ten min walk from the apartment. Daddy is an old Devon name for the Devil, and according to local legend, the Devil lived in a cave at the foot of the cliff, formed when a large chunk of limestone fell into the sea, creating 'Daddyhole'. The possibility of further rockfalls means that nothing has been built in front of the Victorian terrace behind the recreation ground.

Strolling and Walking the South West Coast Path
There’s a host of pretty coastal and woodland walks to choose from, offering spectacular views and a treasure trove of hidden coves and tranquil settings. Walkers will love the wonderful South West Coast Path which can be joined at the bottom of Meadfoot Rd and runs past beautiful Thatcher Rock, the stunning headland of Hope's Nose and towards Babbacombe Bay.

Babbacombe Downs, The Cliff Railway & The Beach
Devon’s English Riviera is ripe for exploring, and with an idyllic walk along Babbacombe Downs - the highest cliff top promenade in England. Here you can take in the spectacular coastline of South Devon spotting seabirds, seals and even dolphins from above! Babbacombe Downs has received the prestigious Green Flag Award, an international sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

A trip on the historic Babbacombe Cliff Railway takes you to Oddicombe Beach, where the whole family can play in the sea to their heart’s content. Enjoy a visit to the stylish Three Degrees West café, bar and bistro on Oddicombe Beach for coffee, cakes or a spot of tapas. And don’t miss the stunning Cary Arms & Spa on Babbacombe Bay. For adrenaline junkies there is plenty to challenge you with coasteering, sailing, scuba diving and hiking.

St Marychurch is choc-a-bloc full of excellent cafés, award winning tearooms and restaurants. Pop into the precinct or stroll along Babbacombe Downs for lots of choice and endless sea views. The Cary Arms on Babbacombe Beach and Three Degrees West on Oddicombe Beach both make spectacular lunch spots – take the famous Babbacombe Cliff Railway from the clifftop at Babbacombe Downs to the two glorious sandy coves.
