Teignmouth is a traditional seaside town on the south coast of Devon, where Georgian and Victorian architecture and the steam railway tell of its seaside holiday heritage. The Victorian pier can be found along the sandy beach and commands views over the English Channel. This popular town offers traditional fish and chip shops, fine seafood restaurants and a collection of fun attractions such as donkey rides and amusements. You will also find crazy gold, funfairs, paddle boarding, boat trips and boat hire, along with weekend carnivals and fairs during the summer season. The owner is also able to offer Alpace Experiences by arrangement.
The charming neighboring village of Shaldon can be accessed by ferry. One of its main attractions is its ‘1785 day’, which is usually celebrated every Wednesday throughout May to September. On this day, you can witness the locals dress in period costumes as they sell crafts and provide lively, traditional entertainment. This rich history can still be enjoyed, as Teignmouth boasts many of the characterful features that made it such a popular seaside resort throughout the past two hundred years. The beautiful, Victorian Grand Pier still stands and its impactful views attract thousands of visitors each year. It also has a fine Lido (outdoor swimming pool), close to the centre of town.
If you wish to explore further afield, Teignmouth is cocooned between the sea and the Teign Estuary, providing the perfect base for exploring south Devon by road, rail or by boat. Teignmouth is a stop along the Riviera Line, a coastal railroad that runs between Paignton and Exeter. This rail route is something that must be enjoyed when visiting the town and offers some spectacular views. The train offers easy accessibility to the beautiful city of Exeter, home to an architecturally intricate cathedral and many unique shops. Beach ¾ mile. Shop 170 yards, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.
