This charming and pretty single storey cottage is set in the small village of Hardgate close to the Solway Coast. Jimmy McKie’s Cottage is beautifully decorated and furnished throughout and is the perfect relaxing cottage for a lovely getaway in this wonderful corner of South West Scotland. The stylish interior of Jimmy McKie’s cottage is complimented by the large enclosed garden to the rear. On a fine day fling open of the patio doors in the modern kitchen/dining room where you can enjoy the delights of the garden perhaps over your morning coffee. The large lounge again makes the most of the garden with its large floor to ceiling window.
Jimmy McKie’s Cottage offers a quiet and peaceful break in a small village but is only a few miles from Castle Douglas, Scotland’s food town, a delightful small market town with an array of independent shops selling produce and quality gifts. There are number of cafés, pubs and restaurants to enjoy a meal in, as well as an excellent butchers and food shops for you to sample the local produce. Jimmy McKie’s Cottage is ideally placed for exploring this beautiful corner of south west Scotland. There are attractions in abundance, from beautiful sandy beaches to dramatic cliff top walks along the majestic Solway Coast. Sailing, swimming, riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports are plentiful in the area as well as many historical sites and beautiful gardens to visit, including the National Trust’s Threave Gardens.
Close to the Galloway Forest Park, home to the first Dark Sky Park in Europe, and central to five of the 7 Stanes, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers. For a quiet and relaxing day you can wander round the many seaside villages and towns like Kippford and Rockcliffe and a must is the pretty little harbour town of Kirkcudbright which still has a busy and bustling harbour where you can watch the fishing boats return with their catch. Stroll through the town and visit the famous Broughton House, the magnificent ruins of MacLellan’s castle or just experience the Arts and Crafts Trail.
