Explore the parkland and woodland of the Galloway Forest Park, where you can enjoy scenic hiking and cycling trails, fishing and you may even see deer roaming, while the rolling countryside of the Machars also offers wonderful and scenic walking opportunities. Head to the former royal burgh of Wigtown, Scotland's national book town, home to an annual book festival, as well as a golf club, castle and Wigtown Bird Hide nature reserve, while the coast at Castle Douglas and the sandy beach of Dalavan are closest to the cottage, around a 15-mile drive away.
