Belmont Cottage offers cosy accommodation in a quiet and private location but is only a short walk to all that Dumfries town centre has to offer. The town has many links with Scotland’s past through Robert the Bruce and with its culture through Robert Burns and Peter Pan. Robert Burns, Scotland’s national Bard, lived, worked and is buried in the town. As a schoolboy, J.M. Barrie played in the garden of Moat Brae House, the inspiration for the story of Peter Pan. The House, garden and cafe are open to the public. The River Nith, running through the town, is lined by walks through attractive green spaces, most notably Dock Park and Castledykes Park with its secret sunken garden.
The cottage is a conversion from a former coach house and provides a luxurious holiday base fully equipped for quiet nights in after a day of exploring. Alternatively, there are restaurants, pubs, take-aways and food outlets in and around the town.
Dumfries is well-placed to enjoy all kinds of opportunities that this beautiful and unspoiled region of the country has to offer. It has hills, forests, beaches, great places for mountain-biking and cycling, and coastal walks that offer many opportunities for wildlife-watching. There are numerous gardens that can be visited, historical ruins such as castles and abbeys, and small, charming towns and villages in the Region.
