Machermore Castle, The Bothy is an annexe of the historic, Grade B listed, Machermore Castle set within a private estate with woodland walks direct from the door. The Bothy offers a quiet peaceful location from which to explore the beautiful Galloway countryside. Its upside down living space, the views from the living room out over the private gardens toward the River Cree are beautiful. It is the perfect place for family and friends to gather and enjoy a tranquil holiday in the delightful Scottish countryside.
Machermore Castle, The Bothy is situated at the gateway to the Galloway Forest Park, Britain’s largest forest park with three hundred square miles of wild beauty awaits to be explored. The park boasts tranquil valleys, rugged rock faces, forest, moorland, Lochs and a huge diversity of wildlife including red and roe deer, wild goats and many birds of prey. Explore the rolling Galloway glens and hills to discover picturesque forest trails, three friendly visitor centres, wonderful wildlife and a long and colourful history of the area. For the outdoor enthusiasts, Galloway offers hill walking, mountain biking, the famous 7Stanes trails and water sports, with many renowned gardens and ancient woodland to explore. The town of Newton Stewart is just over a mile away and offers shops, restaurants and cafés. The towns of Gatehouse of Fleet, Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright are all close by. Heading west are the harbour villages of Port William and Portpatrick with their rugged coastline.
