Then head up the stairs to find a snug with a selection of games and DVDs, and a telescope for aspiring astronomers. As the day winds down, retreat to either a twin room or the master super-king and sip on a glass of wine as you enjoy the unspoilt views of the coast at dusk from the balcony. Tear yourself away from your haven to enjoy a delicious meal at The Anchor Hotel Kippford, or drive up to the town of Dalbeattie where you’ll be spoilt for choice of eateries, and supermarkets for when you need to stock up the fridge. You can also stroll through Dalbeattie Forest Town Wood and feed the ducks at the pond or take an educational trip to Dalbeattie Museum. Once you’re ready for more adventure, head over to the lovely town of Kirkcudbright and marvel at the exhibitions and displays at Dark Space Planetarium, admire the art at Broughton House & Garden, a Georgian mansion converted into an art museum with a Japanese garden, then walk along the marina harbour before going to savour a traditional Scottish meal at The Castle. On you way to Kirkcudbright, pop into Castle Douglas and sample the many flavours of its independent delis, bakers, butchers and greengrocers. Take a boat trip to Threave castle or enjoy the beautiful grounds of Threave gardens. As you journey up to Dumfries, stop at Mabie Farm Park, a small amusement park with a petting zoo, then continue up to the town centre to Dumfries Museum with its local and prehistoric exhibits as well as an outdoor camera obscura, and walk across the 15th-century Devorgilla Bridge to take in the scenic views of the River Nith.
