While Hornsea Mere, Yorkshire's largest natural lake, is located nearby, the town's lively centre has an old-fashioned ambiance with a variety of tiny shops, pubs, and cafes. A half-hour drive from Hornsea Freeport is Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve, which boasts one of the greatest mainland puffin populations in Britain. As a starting point for exploring the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors, and the East Riding's seaside resorts, Hornsea is convenient to Wassand Hall and its walled gardens.
