Getaway venue comprising two distinct holiday accommodation lettings: an authentic shepherd hut crafted by Paulus Smith of Artisan Shepherd Huts and a loosely Americana-inspired 'shack' cabin featuring reclaimed and upcycled materials. Suitable for 2 couples or 4 close friends willing to share double beds. Sited within a fenced-in and gated wooded area inhabited by trees, birds, rabbits and squirrels; a respite from hustle-bustle and chattering tech (Wi-Fi is spotty). Both lettings have their own individual en-suite shower and toilet, kitchenette, fire bowl/pit and BBQ units. Be together in nature with exclusive use of this small woodland, or if you wish, have time out to rest separately. For full details, please read on and see images of property layout and location of hut and shack within the grounds and in relation to each other.
THE SPACE
Our small, secluded woods was probably historically a marl pit. As such, it is a dipped wooded area and is accessed via a ramped walkway. This area is gated and fenced in for added privacy. To promote a retreat-like atmosphere for all guests, non-guests are not permitted on the property.
Our property is surrounded by fields for grazing sheep or cattle, though you won’t have to look far to see ‘wild life’ as we also share our home with our dogs and a herd of rescue horses. You can enjoy views of the fields to the back of the property from our ‘tree house’ viewing platform. We do not offer equestrian or farm stay experience. We offer, by appointment only, horse guided systemic and family constellation therapy sessions. If you’re interested, please search online for ‘horse constellations shivaun.'
We are conveniently located just 10-15 minutes’ walk to Robertsbridge village, which offers shops, a café and bakery, pubs, restaurant, pharmacy, post office, vet and overground train station. We recommend driving if you wish to enjoy the various attractions of 1066 Country and High Weald AONB. E.g. Battle Abbey, Bodiam Castle, Pashley Manor Gardens, Darwell Wood, Scotney Castle and Carr Taylor Vineyard are within 15 minutes’ drive or less. While Rye, Hastings, Camber Sands beach, Chapel Down Vinery and Herstmonceux Castle are approximately 30 minutes’ drive away.
BROWNS HUT: ACCOMMODATION AND FACILITIES
This compact shepherd hut offers guests a tiny house living experience and features a double bed and an en-suite shower with heated towel rail and compost/waterless toilet. A wall mounted boiler provides hot water for a proper shower and all taps. Water supply is connected to mains so is safe to drink. Kitchenette facilities include sink, double hob, kettle, cafetiere, Italian style espresso maker, cutlery, crockery and utensils, also an under counter fridge-freezer. A compact but efficient Hobbitt multi-fuel burning stove provides lovely, warming flame and heat inside the hut.
A BBQ unit is provided for cooking outdoors if you prefer. A fire pit allows guests to strike up a cosy fire on cool evenings or cold nights when relaxing outdoors. Incessant burning or bonfires however is prohibited. A sufficiently practical amount of fuel for stove, charcoal for BBQ, and wood logs for the fire pit is provided.
BROWNS SHACK: ACCOMMODATION AND FACILITIES
This cabin offers guests a tiny house-cum-glamping experience and features a double bed and an en-suite shower with wall-mounted infrared heater and compost/waterless toilet. An electric fire stove, infrared heater and electric blanket provides indoor warmth and comfort during the colder months. Water supply is connected to mains so is safe to drink. An under-counter water heater provides hot water for quick showers and all taps.
A small kitchenette under the eaves features a sink and is equipped with a hot plate, kettle, cafetiere, cutlery, crockery and utensils. There is an ample 46L mini fridge in the cabin. Guests can also cook their meals on a BBQ unit. A fire bowl is available for striking up a cosy fire on cold evenings when relaxing outdoors. A sufficiently practical amount of charcoal for the BBQ and wood logs for the fire bowl is provided.
We allow for one furry friend at a time. Please be mindful of muddy paws on soft furnishings and bed linen and please keep your dog on a lead when on the property.
THINGS TO NOTE
Leave Little Trace
Please note that Browns Hut and Browns Shack are not connected to our septic tank but to soakaways. Eco-friendly, biodegradable body wash, shampoo, hand soap and washing up liquid are provided. If you would like to use your own, please bring only eco-friendly, biodegradable products.
Wi-Fi Connection
Wi-Fi is available on the property through external/outdoor access points. However, please note that signal is weak or spotty in the woods.
Shared Space, Mutual Consideration
We live on the property and share it with our animal friends. Please be considerate and mind appropriate noise levels and be respectful of resident wildlife. Non-guests are not allowed on the property. Outdoor entertainment (e.g. cinema/loud music) is not permitted. Please do not feed the horses or enter the stable yard or paddocks. Please be aware that horses can nip or bite.
Mindful Use of Fire Bowl/Fire Pit
Please be mindful of safety and health considerations when making fires. Please use the fire bowl in a reasonable and moderate manner. Avoid excessive burning, such as:
* Making a large bonfire
* Filling the fire bowl to the top or overflowing
* Constant or prolonged burning throughout the day or night
Located in Robertsbridge, this cabin is in a rural area. Battle Abbey and Battlefield and Bodiam Castle are local landmarks, and the area's natural beauty can be seen at High Weald and Old Roar Gill.
